Non-target Universities

Hi guys,

So this is for a friend as opposed to myself, and thought it was interesting when he asked me this question. He asked me to rank the best non-target universities, really he wanted to know all those outside the Russell Group. Not a long and comprehensive list, only about 5-10. One can make rough estimates using league tables, but as we all know University league table rankings aren't entirely accurate, and just give a general measure. The ranking of some unis is certainly inflated whilst for others it is deflated. Factors to consider are the reputation of the uni, and job prospects with top recruiters.

It'd be great to hear your thoughts :)

Reputation of the uni = job prospects with top recruiters.

But yeah, league tables mean shit, they give only just a very rough measure.

My university is privately owned. Due to this, it isn't ranked in the UK league tables. Would this be held against me in applications?

Again, ranking doesn't matter.

Answering your question, yes. Privately owned uni in the UK = complete non-target.
